Rose Weinstein Receives Award
March 2006
Middle States honors long-time volunteer Rose Weinstein with prestigious Mangan award. Weinstein, who just stepped down as PATD president, was stunned with the surprise tribute at the recent Middle States Tennis Conference in Princeton.Rose Weinstein is Middle States’ chair of the awards committee and spends countless hours selecting people to honor within the section, choosing the awards and putting on a fabulous award banquet. Never did she suspect this year’s prestigious Mangan Award would be presented to her.
The Mangan award is one of USTA Middle State’s highest recognition of achievement and service. This year, the honor went to Rose Weinstein of King of Prussia, Pa.
Weinstein began her tennis career in 1985, as co-owner of the Gulph Mills Racquet Club with Betty Mead, a national champion who taught Rose the tennis business. Previously, Weinstein had been a pro bowler, traveling worldwide.
A certified USPTA and PTR teaching pro, Weinstein has also volunteered for countless district and sectional events. A past president of Middle States’ Philadelphia district, Weinstein is currently its vice president, as well as chair of the Middle States awards committee.
Under her leadership, PATD has grown considerably. Weinstein is well known for getting people involved and recognized for their contributions. She has also worked tirelessly to attract sponsors to Middle States, bringing banks, tennis facilities and various companies into the Middle States extended family.
Weinstein has supported our hall of fame for many years, even before her chairmanship. Our 2005 event was the most successful to date, with about $40,000 raised to help support juniors and junior programs within the section.
Everyone who works with Weinstein feels important, appreciated and motivated. She never claims the spotlight, preferring instead to applaud others’ achievements.
She is unselfish with her time and talent and is an inspiration to us all.
